Pedra da Boca State Park

Pedra da Boca State Park, located in the municipality of Araruna, in Paraíba, was recognized as a key site for world geological heritage. The research was published in July 2023 in International Journal of Geoheritage and Parks, and points out that the area has the potential to become a UNESCO geopark.

The research, which lasted around two years, shows that the characteristics of Pedra da Boca make it a place of global interest.

The Pedra da Boca State Park area has granite rock formations, a very resistant rock, which is unique in the context of the Brazilian semi-arid region.

The Pedra da Boca area has the potential to become a UNESCO geopark. These are places that the organization recognizes as having great scientific value for geosciences and that are used by society in a sustainable way.
